Division of Police ensures the safety and security of employees, visitors, patients, and contractors, as well as the protection of NIH's research and knowledge assets through administering, enforcing, and coordinating a comprehensive full-service security, police protection, and law enforcement program for the health care, research, administration, and support facilities and personnel at the NIH campus and off-campus facilities.

Duties

Provides administrative support for the branch. Coordinates budget activities, annual inventory of equipment and furniture, tracking equipment, and supplies for the organization. Coordinates any related administrative issues, background documents, and maintenance records management systems for the branch. Makes recommendations to management to enhance the organizations operations. Researches and conducts preliminary investigations on special guests and prepares documentation to obtain security clearance from the granting agency. Evaluate the authenticity and veracity of documents, i.e., proof of citizenship, birth certificates, and/or naturalization certificates. Assist with the planning and implementation of security needs for special events on campus. Prepares the documents, correspondences using various office automation software to obtain clearances in accordance with office procedures. Prepares reports regarding security programs and access control.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.
  • Employment is subject to the successful completion of the pre-appointment process (i.e., background investigation, verification of qualifications and job requirements, completion of onboarding forms, submission of required documents, etc.)
  • Males born after December 31, 1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Applicants must meet all qualifications requirements within thirty (30) calendar days of the closing date of this announcement, including time in grade.
  • If selected, you must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP Secret Clearance.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position. Incumbent must submit to and successfully pass a urinalysis drug screening prior to appointment.
  • The Incumbent will also be subject to unannounced random drug testing for the duration of their time in this position.
  • Incumbent must be able to type 40 words per minute or faster.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-08 level, if you meet the following qualification requirement: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1) identifying and/or correcting problems in various administrative functional areas such as budget, inventory, etc. 2) performing research to conduct preliminary background investigations 3) interpreting and executing standard operating procedures or regulations which govern facility access control 4) preparing and/or maintaining a variety of visitor documents and records to support the efficient operation of a security program AND 5) utilizing a variety of office automation software to perform daily work. In addition, you must be able to type at least 40 or more words per minute.
