This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Superintendent, Fort Apache Agency in Whiteriver, Arizona. Maintaining roads under the Bureau of Indian Affairs' inventory. This is a Bargaining Unit position, for more information see What are bargaining units? NOTE: TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE.

Duties

This position will perform under the general supervision of the Supervisory Civil Engineer and will be responsible for road maintenance operations and projects. Your duties will include, but are not limited to: Drives trucks used in connection with roads maintenance. Loads and unloads cargo. Requires ability to make minor repairs and performs daily maintenance. Performs work in connection with roads maintenance. This position is OPEN UNTIL FILLED and may be extended or closed prior to the current closing date. Applications will be reviewed every two weeks; the first cut-off date for applications is 10 business days from the opening date and every two weeks thereafter. Applicants with 10-point Veterans' Preference who submit a complete application after each two week cut-off date, but before the List of Eligible(s) is issued, will be considered and referred on the List, if qualified. Applications will remain active for 3 months.

  • Incumbent is required to operate a government motor vehicle, must possess a valid driver's license, and have a safe driving record within the 3-year period immediately preceding submittal of GSA Form 3607.
  • This position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.
  • Incumbent is required to hold a current valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (Class A CDL). SUBMIT A COPY WITH APPLICATION.

Physical Demands: Duties requires a greater physical exertion in practically all phases of the work including operating, turning, backing, and controlling vehicles which carry heavier loads. Moderate physical exertion needed to shovel for patching road, help lift tires, tire chains or grader wheels when needed. Helps install cutting edges on ground engaging equipment. Incumbent may be required to lift weights up to 100 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed entirely outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Incumbent is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, noise, vibrations, and noxious fumes. Incumbent is required to use safety equipment, such as hearing protection, hard hats, safety shoes, respirators, protective clothing, and other types of personal protective equipment. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date.
