About the Position: As a Tying Tool Repairer within the Vicksburg District, Operations Division, River Operations Branch, Mat Sinking Unit you will repair automatic tying tools used in the construction of articulated concrete mattresses.
NOTE: The duty location of this position will be wherever the Mat Sinking Unit is located.
NOTE: This position is full time/permanent/seasonal position. You will be placed in a non pay status when work is unavailable.
Duties
Perform the full range of repairs to automatic tying tools which are utilized in the construction of articulated concrete mattress.
Diagnose, replace parts, adjust, clean for tools to return to operating condition.
Read and interprets blue prints and shop manuals pertaining to tying tools.
Utilize common hand tools of the mechanic's trade in making repairs.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment physical.
- Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen as well as random drug screens.
- Work in inclement weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Tying Tool Repairer without more than normal supervision. Duties include: Performing a full range of repairs to automatic tying tools used in revetment operations and diagnose problems associated with the tying tools. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Incumbent is required to stand some of the time, sit some of the time, occasionally stooping, and occasionally using tiring positions in performing repairs and adjustments. Incumbent is required to exert intermittent physical activity in occasionally handling or moving tying tools (weighing approximately 40 pounds) in the work area for less than 20% of the time, however, a greater portion of time would involve handling parts or hand tools weighing less than 10 pounds.
Working Conditions Incumbent normally performs repairs, adjustments and maintenance in a work room separated from the mat boat operations. This work area has adequate ventilation and odors, fumes and smoke are of little significance. Normal noise conditions are such that they can be readily talked above. Dirt or grease conditions inherent in this repair work are frequently disagreeable.
