This position is part of the Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management - National Energy Technology Laboratory, Department of Energy. As a Security Specialist, you will be overseeing the National Energy Technology Laboratory's (NETL) personnel security program, and administrate the NETL Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Program.
Duties
This is a developmental position with promotion potential to the Security Specialist, GS-0080-13. At the starting grade, the selectee will execute developmental assignments. Initial supervision and guidance will be greater than that required at the full performance level of GS-13. Assignments will become more challenging and performed with greater autonomy as selectee(s) performance level progresses. At the full performance level of this position (GS-13) duties include:

Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:
Assist providing management oversight on security, medical, or psychological evaluation programs. AND
Assist conducting surveys and participating in audits to ensure compliance with standard requirements. AND
Assist implementing and monitoring policies, instructions, procedures, control systems, or methods for the organization.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must (1) meet all of the requirements as described in this section; and 2) be rated "well-qualified", which is defined as having a score of 85 or better.
