This position is located within Environmental Management Services (EMS) of a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing task (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives.
Duties
"This occupation is currently approved for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive (CSI). Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI. The amount of lump sum CSI is determined based on appointment date and may be pro-rated as determined by the end date of the CSI. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI."
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The position is delegated responsibility for assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis. Non-routine duties require that the position reorganize work schedules efficiently to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner. This position is required to coordinate work with supervisors of other services within the positions area of jurisdiction so as not to interrupt patient care or other activities.
Responsible for the cleaning of all patient areas, corridor spaces throughout Medical Center, Operating Rooms, and all other areas as assigned.
Responsible for assuring the efficient and economical accomplishment of work assignments of subordinates within established policies and schedules set by higher levels of supervision.
Trains staff and ensures that they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, patients' family members and personnel. Provides on-the job training for subordinates as individual needs dictate. Due to the constant change in the type of patients, provides proper on-the-job training to ensure the housekeeping duties are effectively accomplished. The position provides special direction to new employees to prepare them for individual assignments, procedures and safety policies.
Approves leave requests for subordinates, counsels' employees, and recommends disciplinary action to a higher-level supervisor whenever non-compliance with policy warrants. The position makes formal appraisal of subordinates works performance and conduct.
Responsible for the quality inspection of assigned areas, recording discrepancies in cleanliness, needed maintenance repairs, broken or inadequately stored furnishings and equipment. Provides documented inspection reports and acts on unaccomplished work.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Tours of duty may vary depending on the internal department needs with weekdays, weekends, day and evening shift schedules

Physical Requirements: Incumbent must do a great deal of walking, standing, bending, and climbing of stairs. Must be physically able to remain engaged in manual work requiring muscular effort. Visual acuity must be sufficient to see dust, dirt, cobwebs, etc.
Critical Skills Incentive: Authorized (20% of base salary)
