The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an Maintenance Operation Controller, in conjunction with the Production Superintendent, to assign priorities to aircraft production efforts, to direct action to resolve resource shortages, to maintain liaison among aircraft maintenance management, and to provide training to Air Force personnel in the accomplishment of tasks set forth.

Duties

Provides both present and projected status information to prescribed managerial personnel. Notes projected completion date, studies actual aircraft status and informs higher levels within chain of command when aircraft is to be mission ready. Through use of radio, telephone, intercom, e-mail, personal contact with production supervisors, technicians, review of work documents and statistical listings, determine status of aircraft. As daily events occur, maintains MIS data integrity regarding maintenance flying schedule requirements. Accomplishes aircraft debriefing to ensure malfunctions identified by aircrews are properly reported and documented. Maintains liaison with Maintenance Coordinating Function (MCF) of the Command Post. Conducts training and skill level progression of Air Force personnel.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
  • The duties of this position meet all requirements as a category 4 designation, and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the parent Federal Agency or office
  • This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and cannot become a member of the Ready Reserve. (IAW: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve,")
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical examination

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-08, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of the production organization and related production methods, processes, facilities, machinery, equipment, manpower, and materials required to plan and schedule repair, overhaul, and/or modify operations for a wide variety of major aircraft, commodity systems, exchangeable, and associated assets. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time--in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: General knowledge of Air Force aircraft and equipment that support a combat coded mission. Ability to plan, schedule and take corrective action to meet emergency and regular work load requirements. Knowledge of Microsoft office, the ability to adapt to changing software and produce visual aids to brief to senior military officials. Possess the skills to inform affected activities of changes in priorities, plans, and schedules. Ability to develop, coordinate, implement, and maintain functional and emergency action checklist. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
