About the Position: Serve under the supervision of the Chief, Safety and Occupation Health performing a broad range of safety duties. Assist the Chief of Safety and Occupation Health in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the District's overall safety program. Duties

Perform a variety of duties in support of the District Safety and Occupational Health program. Review contractors' safety program proposals for conformance with safety standards, procedures and codes. Follow established safety procedures in accomplishing work and report unsafe working conditions and safety violations to the resident/project engineer. Make frequent safety surveys of construction, Operations and Maintenance projects, and public use areas to determine whether prescribed safety measures and standards are being applied and to advise on various safety problems Prepare District regulations to reduce hazards and risk for District employees and property, specific procedures to reduce risk, and to document compliance with applicable regulations. Conduct continuing intensive safety inspections at District installations and at contractor locations to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 50lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• This duties of this position require incumbent to obtain and maintain CP-12 Professional Certificate in Safety and Occupational Health, CP-12 Level 1 certificate within 24 months of employment.
• The incumbent may be required to work at altitudes up to 8000 feet in extreme weather.
• Wearing protective clothing and equipment may be necessary.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
