Duties

You will operate woodworking machines and tools (e.g. routers, band saws, scroll saws, drill presses) to perform carpentry repairs. You will construct and repair workbenches, countertops, bookcases, and equipment cabinets to complete carpentry tasks. You will understand materials (e.g. wood, wood substitutes, glues, adhesives) to perform carpentry work. You will interpret sketches, blueprints, and building codes to plan out carpenter projects.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform common tasks including; 1) Constructing, installing, repairing and modifying wood and wood substitute structures such as building frames, concrete forms, walls, staircases, door and window frames; 2) Utilizing proper construction techniques and operation of general and precise carpentry and woodworking machinery and equipment such as routers, band and scroll saws, drill presses, etc.; 3) Producing finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions and acceptable appearance; 4) Using advanced shop mathematics to plan, compute and layout more complex and exact projects with features such as arcs, tangents and circles; 5) Interpreting complex instructions, sketches, blueprints and building codes and apply in everyday use; and 6) Operating and maintaining various tools of the trade to include hand and powered tools such as drills, shavers, sanders, routers, table saw, planner, joiner and related tools and equipment.
