This position is a Child and Youth Programs (CYP) Coordinator of the Youth Sports and Fitness (YSF). The YSF programs enable Navy families to balance the competing demands of family life and military readiness by providing rewarding opportunities for youth to be physically active and exposed to positive lifestyle behaviors. This position will plan, organize and provide a year round supervised youth sports and fitness program including the social, recreational and educational program components.

Duties

Program Management Develops daily activity plans meeting in order to meet the Navy YSF core service area requirements. Develops and maintains a monthly calendar of all youth fitness and sports activities and events. Maintains appropriate records and reports. Ensures the principles, administration, rules and regulations of the youth fitness and sports program are consistent with those of the National Association for Youth Sports (NAYS) or other affiliated organization. Ensures all direct program support personnel are trained and have appropriate credentials. Develops, organizes and conducts supplemental YSF activities based on the expressed and observed needs. Instructs participants in those YSF activities for which the employee has technical expertise Plans, develops and provides a setting for both "imported" fitness and sports programs at the base level Establishes partnerships with adjacent military installations, as well as the local off-base community necessary to meet the YSF core program requirements Provides individual and group fitness and sports programs to include activities such as running, aerobic classes, tennis, golf, team sports, sports clinics, leagues and tournaments, which ensures achievements of youth are recognized formally and informally. Recruits and conducts NAYS affiliated training seminars for coaches and officials as needed. Utilizes on-base resources whenever possible, collaborates with other military installations in planning regional teen, fitness and sports activities, as applicable, and where available within the local community coordinates with area programs that offer these programs, such as the local running club, boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), 4H, Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), Parks and Recreation, etc. Indoor/Outdoor Environment Ensures space is available and adequate to meet all programming needs and is reflective of and inviting to program participants and spectators. Verifies the safe and proper conditions of all fields, courts, facilities, areas and grounds utilized by the YSF program. Coordinates the field maintenance. Prepares the program space for scheduled activities and ensures all safety requirements are met prior to use of the area, to ensure recurring scheduled and/or immediate repairs and maintenance services are performed to meet both safety and program activity specifics. Maintains and secures the necessary supplies and equipment to support the programs and activities offered and ensures that all equipment and supplies are age-appropriate and in good condition. Conducts inventories of supplies and equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing those that are damaged, missing, or depleted. Reports any unsafe equipment and/or environmental discrepancy to supervisor and removes items if applicable. Reschedules or realigns any/all activities to ensure maximum safety and age appropriateness of venues offered. The employee conducts simultaneous indoor and outdoor activities with on/off-base activities as required to meet patron demand necessary to provide all core YSF programs. Ensures YSF program compliance to all fire, safety and security rules and regulations. Interactions and Relationships Interacts professionally with employees, parents, volunteers and local installation command personnel. Uses appropriate child and youth guidance techniques that encourages positive social interactions, promotes conflict resolution, and develops self-control, self-motivation and self-esteem. Administers a Parent Education Program for sports. Provides care and supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with local policies, guidance, and standards. Supervises fitness and sports activities and enforces rules and regulations concerning dress, conduct, and equipment and game rules. Supervision of Children and Youth Provides care and supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with Navy YSF program and local policies, guidance, and standards. Supervises youth fitness and sports activities and enforces rules and regulations concerning dress, conduct, and equipment and game rules. Outreach Publicizes upcoming YSF program events and activities and ensures that opportunities offered in the community are communicated and shared with families. Assists in the development of a youth sponsorship program to identify and integrate dependent youth of DoN military personnel Visits local housing areas to make contact with teens in order to encourage their participation in the teen program. Develops contacts with off-base community members and with the general public to develop programs and activities necessary to meet the core as well as supplemental YSF programs, Within established Navy CYP policy and objectives, plans the YSF program. Requirements

  • This position may be a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent of this position may be subject to and must consent to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Must satisfactorily complete all background checks for child care positions, including fingerprint checks, a Tier 1 with Child Care check, Tier 3 if applicable, and a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization, be free of all communicable diseases, and obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases.
  • Must successfully obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance as needed.
  • Ability to complete required training certificates, and maintain certifications or credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation institutions used as part of DoD's Child and Youth Programs.
  • Participation in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment is required.

Qualifications

Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs. Specialized experience in youth fitness, recreation, and sports programs or education appropriate to the position and full-time experience working with children and/or youth. Knowledge of youth recreational sports and fitness concepts, theories and principles. Knowledge of a variety of NAYS national standards as they apply to youth fitness and sports activities for children and youth. Knowledge of Federal and State laws governing the detection and prevention of child abuse and/or neglect. Knowledge of the range of activities and services, of participant interests and needs, and of the methods and processes involved in a military YSF program, that enable the employee to plan and conduct a variety of enhanced activities and services. Skill in planning and carrying out a military YSF program which meets, as fully as possible, the needs of the participating community. Skill in effectively organizing and utilizing all available resources within the program framework. Ability to supervise others. Ability to lead, supervise, and interact with youth and teens, and the ability to safeguard and account for monies and other related YSF & Teen program resources. Ability to identify and respond to emergency situations including evacuations, child illness, and physical and emotional disorders. Ability to competently and independently carry out continuing YSF projects or programs through proper application of the principles, concepts, and techniques of youth sports and fitness to the specific needs of a military community. Ability to maintain records and reports. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills.

Education

A minimum of a 4-year degree in Youth Recreation, Physical Education, Youth Development, or other related degree as appropriate is preferred AND 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth.

OR

A Master's degree in a related field of study AND a minimum of 1-year professional experience working with children or youth.

OR

Experience that demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, coordinate, supervise, or evaluate youth fitness, recreation, and sports programs AND 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth
