You will serve as a HEALTH TECHNICIAN (AUDIOLOGY/HEARING CONSERVATION PROGRAM) in the Occupational Audiology Department of Navy for U. S. Navy Bureau of Medicine & Surgery (BUMED). This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will document each patient encounter in the Electronic Health Record. You will assess vital patient health history data and review health issues impacting hearing sensitivity or audiological test results. You will identify patient workplace hearing health hazards, determine program enrollment status and conduct needed medical tests procedures. You will determine the need for follow up tests and coordinate timely secondary care and follow-up services. You will provide practical hands-on education and demonstrations of proper hearing protection insertions/fittings.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • In accordance with BUMEDINST 6220.9B CH-1, this position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Occupational Hearing Conservation Technician Certification.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-05) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Performing otoscopic examinations, tympanometry tests and evaluations; Counseling patients on test results, documenting results and referring for further evaluation if needed. Assists with coordinating hearing conservation testing software updates and troubleshooting software/hardware problems. Assesses patient's personal hearing protection devices and administers constructive training on accurate fit, wear and care.
