Duties

This position serves as the Marine Information Specialist providing waterways management services, technical advice and active leadership in the administration of navigation issues including marine events, bridges, regulated navigation and limited access areas, aids-to-navigation and processing a full range of complex technical navigational and related operational data for dissemination in official publications.

Qualifications

Qualifications for GS-11: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level (in the Federal sector). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include: Independently providing technical advice and leadership in the administration of navigation issues including marine events, bridges, regulated navigation, aids-to-navigation, and processing the full range of navigational and related operational data for dissemination in official publications OR at least one of the following if using education to qualify at this grade level:(A) a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a related fieldOR(B) 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related.OR(C) A combination of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in or related to the work of this position AND education graduate level education that provided the specific knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position and experience. Experience and education combinations are computed by first determining the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the total of qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at that grade level. Graduate Education: Major study -- navigation, mathematics, physics, astronomy, geography, meteorology, engineering, cartography, or other subjects related to aeronautical or marine navigation and operations... Qualifications for GS-09:  Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level (in the Federal sector). Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include:  Providing advice under supervisory guidance in the administration of navigation issues including marine events, bridges, regulated navigation, aids-to-navigation, and processing a limited range of navigational and related operational data for dissemination in official publications OR at least one of the following if using education to qualify at this grade level: (A) 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree; major study -- navigation, mathematics, physics, astronomy, geography, meteorology, engineering, cartography, or other subjects related to aeronautical or marine navigation and operations (B) A combination of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in or related to the work of this position AND graduate level education that provided the specific knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position.  Experience and education combinations are computed by first determining the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the total of qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at that grade level. Graduate Education: Major study -- navigation, mathematics, physics, astronomy, geography, meteorology, engineering, cartography, or other subjects related to aeronautical or marine navigation and operations. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
