THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION THAT REQUIRES MILITARY MEMBERSHIP. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT ELECTRICIAN, Position Description Number PDD0475000 and is part of the Mississippi National Guard.

Duties

As a AIRCRAFT ELECTRICIAN, WG-2892-10, you will aerform maintenance on aircraft electrical systems. This position is located in a Transportation Aircraft Repair Shop (TARS) which supports 10 to 15 States with backup unit maintenance, intermediate support maintenance and limited depot maintenance DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (1) Functionally tests, troubleshoots, inspects, adjust, aligns, calibrates, repairs and overhauls the entire range of aircraft electrical systems to insure maximum operating efficiency. This includes general, major, and limited depot maintenance on Army fixed and/or rotor wing aircraft. These duties include repair and overhaul of complex power, control, and warning systems such as: master control panels and analyzing units which monitor and regulate engine operations; master caution panels; voltage regulators and supervisory panels; AC and DC generators for regulations and load capacity plus voltage checks; starters for slippage and breakaway torque; inverters for in-put and out-puts for proper voltage, AMP, and frequency; both lead-acid and nickle-cadium type batteries; indicating instruments and fuel quantity indicating systems; lenear actuators; electronic and electrical control units governing air conditioning and other utility systems. Fabricates and repairs wiring harness; and test equipment requisitions, and maintains records of bench stock, material, parts, and equipment. (2) Selects, operates, maintains, and repairs specialized electrical measuring and shop equipment such as: multimeters, vacuum tube voltmeters, tube testers, oscilloscopes, insulation testers, vary drives, magneto test stands, and electrical equipment test stands. Calibrates and adjustsamplifiers, control boxes, and other equipment to vary voltage, resistance, frequency, load and other variables to analyze constructional and operating characteristics of electrical shop equipment and testers. (3) Selects, studies, utilizes, files, and updates Technical Manuals, work requirements, TWX's, newsletters, and other publications with regard to aircraft electrical systems and shop equipment. Solves unusual maintenance problems by studying layout drawings, blue-prints, wiring diagrams and schematics. (4) Maintains a working knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles as applies to avionics instruments systems to include use and interpretation of wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical publications. May be required to participate in aerial flights. (5) May spend up to 20% of the time performing on-the-job training. Evaluates training effectiveness. Required to serve as requested on maintenance assistance and instruction teams (MAIT) and CONTACT teams throughout the supported area. Participates in conducting the necessary safety program for the Avionics/Electronics Shop. (6) Performs such travel as may be required in the accomplishment of assigned duties and the organizational mission. (7) Performs authorized major modifications within assigned functional area as directed by higher technician authority. (8) May assist authorized firefighters in the performance of fire/crash rescue duties on an as needed basis. (9) Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

This is an indefinite position, tenure 3, with a time limit determined by the needs of the agency. Any permanent military technician who is selected for this position will become tenure 3. The selectee will receive the same benefits and entitlements as the tenure 1 employee, but will be considered tenure 3 for purposes of reduction in force. You can be terminated at any time with a 30-day notice. If a permanent resource becomes available, incumbent may be converted to a permanent appointment without competition. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. MILITARY MEMBERS WITH BONUSES: Upon acceptance of a military technician position military members who are currently receiving a military Reenlistment/Extension Bonus (REB) or GI Bill-SR Kicker may lose incentive eligibility and may be subject to termination or suspension of incentive (includes indefinite and temporary technicians on assignment for more than 180 days in any continuous 12-month period). GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which has provided a knowledge and skill in locating and tying in the electrical systems with the aircraft armament, electronics, and instrument systems; adjusting and calibrating the components of the various electrical systems; reading and interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 month of experience or training installing, maintaining, repairing and modifying electrical systems and major substation components of electrical system. Experience diagnosing malfunctions and determining remedy when complex relationships exists among different electrical system circuits requiring knowledge of all electrical units and systems. Experience making electrical repairs that require the use of precision measuring equipment and common hand tools. Experience in the setup and operation of computerized multiple circuit analyzing equipment in manual, semiautomatic, or automatic mode to run existing and new (not fully debugged) diagnostic programs to test and analyze aircraft electrical circuitry and interconnecting cabling of systems such as navigational computers, radar, and related equipment and to repair discrepancies.
