This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: to serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Section Small Shop Chief no more than 25% of the time over journey level mechanics performing both on and off ordnance equipment maintenance and to train reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. DUTIES: Duty 1 - Performs small shop duties over the journey level mechanics in the section no more than 25% of the time. Duty 2 - Installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs a complete missile and ordnance systems including support and test equipment consisting of numerous complex integrated components. Duty 3 - Sets up and operates software controlled automatic test equipment (ATE) to test and troubleshoot complex electronic component of missiles and ordnance systems. Duty 4 - Receives stores, handles, and transports ammunition, rockets, unguided and guided weapons and countermeasures, demolition material, and other types of conventional ordnance. Duty 5 - Complies with all federal, DOD, USAF, state, and local regulations concerning hazardous material and waste including all explosive items.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6600 Armament Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: the ability to perform the work of an ORDNANCE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC with little to no supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Comprehensive knowledge of munitions maintenance methods and procedures to troubleshoot, repair, modify, and test systems of a variety of aircraft ordnance systems including support and test equipment, sub-assemblies, and associated handling equipment or devices. Knowledge of explosive safety, security, and transportation regulations, practices, and procedures. Skill in the use of test equipment and measuring devices such as leak detectors, feeler gauges, dial indicators, micrometers, bore sight tools, multi-meters, voltmeters, and ammeters and in automated and manual computer systems operations including systems such as the Combat Ammunition Systems, Core Automated Maintenance System, Tactical Munitions Reporting System, and FEDLOG. Ability to interpret technical orders, technical manuals, blueprints, schematic drawings, and other technical information and skill to apply the data. Knowledge of ordnance systems maintenance, inspection, storage, and transportation rules, practices procedures, principles and policies including safe operation of various light and heavy machinery and vehicles and assorted tools. Ability to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, modify, adjust and test a variety of aircraft ordnance systems using electronic, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic principles of operation such as missile and special weapons launching devices, decoys, CAD/PAD items, and rocket launching equipment. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to plan and organize training includes determining resources requirements, developing lesson plans, schedules and conducting training. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. Must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. The incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties; however, the incumbent may also be assigned some non- ART duties, generally not to exceed 30% of total responsibilities. Work schedules will be so aligned to allow the individual to function fully on unit training assembly (UTA) weekends. Incumbent may be required to secure a valid state, commercial driver's license with hazardous materials endorsement. Personal protective equipment must be worn in compliance with safety and health directives. May be required to travel on commercial or military aircraft when TDY is needed. May be required to work uncommon tours of duty. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENT: The work requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, climbing, stretching, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions and in hard to reach places. May occasionally work in a sitting position while making repairs at a workbench or operating test stands and consoles. The work requires lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying various sizes and shapes of components and parts weighing up 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. ENVIRONMENT FACTOR: The work is normally performed in inside shop areas that is well heated and ventilated, with occasional outside work in areas that may subject the employee to prevailing weather conditions, noise, slippery or uneven surfaces, and work in confined areas. There is frequent exposure to cuts, bruises, shocks, burns, and injury from possible ruptured lines or component failure during high pressure testing. Must occasionally wear face masks and protective clothing when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic fuels and acids, and may be required to work in close proximity to explosive components and devices. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
