The Electrician, Series: WG-2805, Grade: 10, Location: VA West Palm Beach, Florida. May be assigned to the FMS Maintenance & Construction (M & C) Shop or the Electrical Shop (Engineering Service) as a full journeyman electrician for our state-of-the-art VA Medical Center which consist of a 400 bed general medical / surgical and psychiatric center, 120 bed Nursing Home Care Unit (NHCU), an outpatient clinic (OPC), which will serve 170,000 visits per year.

Duties

Major Duties include (but not limited to): Maintains complex electrical equipment, makes repairs to high and low voltage systems, uses engineering to layout, install or modify existing electrical systems. Ability to take field measurements and transpose them to job needs, read and understand operating instructions and procedures, interpret electrical codes and record necessary data. Calculates electrical load requirements for existing or new electrical equipment, including voltage, voltage drops, current and temperature, raceway/conduit capacity. Must be able to read blueprints and schematics. Uses electrical testing equipment such as meggers, multi-meters, watt meters, power factor meters, phase rotation meters, frequency meters, ground fault interrupters, cathodic protection tests. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7am to 3:30, tour subject to change based on the needs of the facility Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD01136A Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Must work on ladders, from scaffolding, on rooftops or other high places when installing equipment or services. He/she works on high ceilings holding heavy power tools or equipment overhead or at arm's length. Incumbent may be required to lift and carry items that weigh up to fifty (50) pounds. At other times he/she must work sitting, kneeling or in awkward positions in cramped quarters. Must be able to identify colors as most all electric wires are color-coded and failure to identify colors would seriously hamper work in progress or expose fellow workmen to dangerous electric shock. will be required at times to work in cramped or confined areas and in close proximity to operating machinery, to work from ladders or scaffolds and may be subject to falling objects and inclement weather. Incumbent may be subjected to dust, fumes, noise, dampness, scrapes, bums, electrical shock, dirt and extreme temperatures.`
