The primary purpose of this position, Sled Systems Mechanic, WG-4745-8T11, is to provide test set up capabilities in support of customer operations. Provides support operations for all sled preparation, screen boxes, operates high-pressure pneumatics/hydraulic, and performs all electrical wiring to fire rocket motors in wired sequence.
Duties
Plan and layout sled build up from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, checklists, and work orders.
Perform all track operations necessary to complete final systems wiring check, propulsion systems arming, staging, firing, and recovery.
Perform fabrication, repair, and maintenance of complex test facilities to support customer operations.
Complete broad range of test equipment fabrication in support of customers performing research and development testing at the track facility.
Handle munitions in accordance with standard operating instructions.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4700 General Maintenance And Operations Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work requires frequent stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions for long periods. In addition, work involves frequent movement and maneuvering of large, heavy objects using hoists, holders, and pulleys as required. Requires heavy lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee works outside in all kinds of weather frequently exposed to dust and dirt. Works near moving parts of equipment, machinery, and is exposed to the hazards associated with solid fuel rocket motors, and ignition systems. Employee is regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises, falls, falling material, or injury from equipment. May be required to wear protective clothing/safety equipment such as safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, respirators, hard hats, and hearing protection.
