You will serve as a PRODUCTION SHOP PLANNER (MACHINIST) in the Mechanical Shop (Code 930), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will coordinate required system tagouts with the work control and release function, packaging and assembly of work documentation, and materials to meet schedules and deadlines.
You will follow progress of work and assist others in eliminating backlogs by resequencing work as requested by project management.
You will compile work packages that consist of Task Group Instructions (TGI's), drawings, technical requirements, and shop processes/procedures that are derived from pertinent standards, instructions, and drawings.
You will identify effective application of trade resources, efficient utilization of manpower, material, Equipment and special tools needed to accomplish specified work tasks.
You will prepare material request forms.
You will utilize the project task packaging strategy and grouping areas of work for efficient application of trade skills and materials.
You will be responsible for identifying, calling out and assembly of all Job Materials needed to perform a task within a work package.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications

Assisting first line supervisors, zone managers, schedulers, and P&E personnel in answering questions, resolving work problems, and giving technical assistance in trade related requirements.
Applying knowledge of administrative and production work in relation to the ship repair, maintenance, or inactivation business.
Experience working at the Journey-level in the Machinist trade.
Applying knowledge of hazardous material procedures, equipment history procedures, and kitting.
Applying full well-rounded knowledge of trade skill duties and responsibilities to effectively coordinate work with others.
Reading and interpreting TGI's, drawings, process instruction, specifications, Corporate Nuclear Power Manuals, technical manuals and standards, and work request documents.
Communicating orally and in writing skills with various levels of personnel.
