THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1719P01 and is part of the IL 182 AW, National Guard.
Duties
As a INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST (TITLE 32), GS-0690-11, you will plan, schedule, execute, manage, and administer the installation-wide Industrial Hygiene/Bioenvironmental Engineering Program (IH/BEE), which includes occupational health/industrial hygiene, radiation safety, and environmental monitoring to maintain and promote the health and well-being of military and technician personnel.
Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list:
Serve as the Base Radiation Safety Officer for Radio-Frequency radiation, ionizing radiation, and laser radiation.
Evaluate the areas to determine hazards; develop and write guidance on local controls and procedures for personnel entry into confined spaces.
Develop, implement, manage and institute the base ergonomic program, which includes worksite surveys to evaluate compliance with the most current practices and determine if there are work practices which could be cause cumulative trauma disorders.
Review and provide input to the installation Environmental Engineer regarding federal and state environmental permit applications.
As a member of the Environmental Differential Pay (EDP) Review Committee, evaluate proposed EDP situations for degree of health risk and functions as the technical expert on availability and soundness of protective equipment or clothing.
Update and review base disaster/contingency/response plans.
Manage and assess installation environmental sampling, analysis and monitoring requirements, and perform ambient, source and substance tests and monitoring.
Serve as the installation point of contact and coordinator for Agency Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) activities, including assembling and maintaining an inventory of information sources and documents, providing information and expert advisory services relative to ATSDR health assessments/risks, and preparing related correspondence and reports.
Develop, implement, and manage the Federal Hazard Communication Standard as mandated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance with applicable OSHA and Air Force Occupational Safety and Health (AFOSH) directives and regulations.
Research industrial operations and develop, implement, and execute surveillance strategies, inspections and evaluations of operational facilities and various activities to detect and eliminate health hazards.
Determine and assign Risk Assessment Code (RAC) to health hazards.
Qualifications
AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of consideration for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code § 709), will be in the following manner and sequence:
The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG.
The SECOND area of consideration will be all current Federal Employees.
The THIRD area of consideration will be all Federal re-employment eligible.
The FOURTH area of consideration will be applicants willing to become T32 Dual Status Technicians and gain ILNG membership.
The FIFTH area of consideration will U.S. Citizens.
Military Grades: Enlisted Only - Minimum rank of TSgt. Maximum rank of MSgt.
BASIC REQUIREMENT: MUST meet one of the following requirements. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable. You MUST provide OFFICIAL transcripts and/ or Certification from the ABIH with your application.
Possess a bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science.
Possess a bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene.
Possess certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-11 Level - MUST possess specialized experience which includes 12 months experience equivalent to at least a GS-09 that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position, to include but not limited to ensuring statutory and regulatory compliance with applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Air Force Occupational Safety and Health (AFOSH) directives and regulations; managing and assessing installation environmental sampling, analyzing and monitoring requirements, and performing ambient, source and substance tests and monitoring; serving as the Base Radiation Safety Officer for Radio-Frequency radiation, ionizing radiation, and laser radiation; and reviewing and providing input to the installation Environmental Engineer regarding federal and state environmental permit applications.

Education
