You will serve as a Engineering Technician in the Project/Process Division of the Engineering Department of SUPSHIP.

Duties

You will establish standard practices, assist with the definition of objectives, requirements and responsibilities for administration and management of ship design/overhaul process with HII-NNS technical personnel. You will participate in efforts to streamline the work flow and design/review process. You will coordinate with SUPSHIPNN Engineering Departments efforts with respect to technical support of the programs/hulls assigned. You will serve as the governments technical point of contact for assigned hulls/projects providing input and information regarding items assigned to SUPSHIPNN Engineering Department. You will implement, recommend new or improved standards and procedures related to ship construction, modernization or repair. You will recommend changes to the current and future shipbuilding specifications and Navy standards. You will review and evaluate requests for departure from contact requirements. You will make recommendations concerning adequacy of specifications and take appropriate action to correct deficiencies or make recommendations for deficiencies. You will coordinate with SUPSHIPNN Engineering Department with respect to development of depot availability work packages. You will review and evaluate Memorandum of Agreements and Memorandum of Understandings between various organizations performing work in conjunction with HII and NNS to ensure technical requirements.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower pay grade GS-12 or pay band, in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing technical engineering guidance to support operations or projects for the design, construction, repair, or certification of aircraft carriers or submarines.
