THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a ELECTRONICS MECHANIC (TITLE 32), Position Description Number NGD1205000 and is part of the TN ARMY National Guard. This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 103 (Volunteer Chapter).

Duties

As an ELECTRONICS MECHANIC (MILITARY) WG-2604-11, you will perform functional tests, analyze performance and malfunctions, remove, install, test, maintain, modify, perform alignments and troubleshoot the electronic, electrical, mechanical and hydraulic assemblies, modules, and interconnecting cables of a variety of combat and tactical equipment to include the M1 series main battle tank, M2/3 series Bradley fighting vehicle, Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), TOW Missile System and the ATACMS Launch Loader Module (LLM). Utilizes Integrated Family Test Equipment (IFTE), Built in Test Equipment (BITE) and break out boxes (BOB) for fault isolation, verification, or adjustment of assemblies and modules. Repairs or replaces chassis mounted components on Unit Under Test (UUT). Perform Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) operations for fault isolation on LLM electronic modules, circuit cards, and assemblies to component level. Replace faulty components on UUT printed circuit boards and power distribution systems. Utilize oscilloscopes, signal generators, digital multi-meters, and other test equipment to locate, diagnose, and repair malfunctions. Troubleshoot and repair launch pod/container (LP/C), trainer rocket simulator modules, Missiles/Launchers Pod Assembly (M/LPA), trainer missile simulator modules, and various like items. Troubleshoot carrier electrical and power distributions systems as an integrated subsystem of the weapon system or equipment being repaired. Isolates faulty assemblies, cables, wiring harnesses and modules to component level for repair or replacement. Insure proper integration of information between carrier, Fire Control System (FCS), vehicle and equipment hydraulic and mechanical systems, secure digital communications system, and intercommunications system. Performs field and limited sustainment maintenance to include installation, routine maintenance, repair, and overhaul of fixed and mobile operational communication and electronics systems, e.g., shelter mounted AM radio and teletype systems, shelter mounted single side band radio and teletype systems, shelter mounted radio relay and terminal systems, complex radar systems, interrogators, gun, rocket, and missile fire control, directional and digital computer systems, peripheral equipment, and related test equipment, and Modification Table Of Equipment (MTOE) authorized automation equipment. Performs administrative functions in establishing and maintaining maintenance records on equipment maintained or repaired. Assists in the preparation of requests for required repair parts. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Selectee will be required to undergo medical testing, at the expense of the government, prior to beginning employment. Medical tests are used to determine fitness and eligibility for employment.
  • Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility.
  • For positions requiring a security clearance (Secret or Top Secret) the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E-3 through E-9 / WO1 through CW3 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicant's knowledge of electrical or electronic theory, knowledge of common testing procedures, skill in the use of hand tools of the electronics trade, and skill in reading schematics. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 18 months of experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. Experience in using hand tools, power tools and gauges to make intricate repairs. Experience in using diagnostic and testing equipment. Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.
