The primary purpose of this position is To operate engineering and construction equipment and perform functions as cutting, moving, digging, grading, and rolling earth, sand, stone, and other materials; and construct, maintain, and repair rigid and flexible pavements, roads, and parking lots.
Duties
1. Operates one or more types of heavy equipment to push, pull, pile, or load materials such as sand, gravel, earth, snow, moving and covering refuse, and clearing brush, rocks, tree stumps, and other material.
2. Operates one or more types of gasoline or diesel-powered heavy trucks with air brakes, automatic or standard shift, heavy equipment, including snow removal equipment and vacuum type sweepers to clear streets, parking lots, ramps, sidewalks, and aprons of snow, ice, or foreign objects.
3. Maintains, repairs, and constructs flexible roads, pavements, parking areas, sidewalks, or similar surfaces of
asphalt.
4. Maintains, repairs, and constructs rigid pavements or similar cement and concrete surfaces.
5. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
6. Uses and maintains tools and equipment.

- Shift work may be required. Supporting after-hours on-call services and carrying a work provided cell phone during duty hours or while on call is required.

- This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical-Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
- The work requires the employee to drive a CDL motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid Class B driver’s license is required for the position
- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing
- May be required to train and/or guide lower grade employees
- This position requires a physical/medical examination. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Heavy physical effort is used by the operator in constantly-
- reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
