This position is located in Department of Homeland Security, United States Coast Guard, Director of Operational Logistics, Office of Base Operations, Base Cleveland, located in Detroit, Michigan.
Duties
This position serves as a Marine Machinery Mechanic and primarily performs overhaul and/or repairs on all types of machinery and mechanical equipment aboard Coast Guard vessels. Occasionally operates a marine travel lift.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
- Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
- This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
Qualifications
Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired. Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:
Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (screen-out element).
Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc.
Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
Knowledge of materials.
Trouble shooting.
