This position is located at the Kayenta Service Unit, Division of Clinical Services, Rehabilitation Therapy Branch, Kayenta, AZ. The primary purpose of this position is to provide nonprofessional work of a clinical and clerical nature requiring the practical knowledge of treatment techniques and procedures in providing treatment in patients.
Duties
Educates patients and their families in home exercise programs prescribed by a physical therapist or occupational therapist based upon patient and or family needs and the home environment.
Provides limited therapeutic modalities such as ultrasound, electrical simulation, TENS, heat, and ice under direct supervision of a physical or occupational therapist as well as assisting with treatments under direct supervision as needed.
Fits and adjusts crutches, canes, and walkers correctly according to patient height. Trains the patient to use appliances correctly on all surfaces and stairs. Fits patients with prefabricated splints, braces, and other orthotic devices.
Assists the therapist with management of all aspects of therapy sponsored clinics including inventor and supply management, scheduling of patients, and coordination of all additional patient needs for those particular clinics on a case by case basis.
Coordinates with other medical facilities and contract health to schedule patient appointments with these facilities, obtain patient specialty consultation results, and obtain patient post-operative reports.
Takes and screens telephone calls, refers calls and messages to the appropriate staff member, and or furnishes the information requested.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-05 Specialized experience - Work as an assistant to one of the specialized therapies such as occupational, physical, manual arts, corrective, or educational therapy; or experience gained as an assistant or aid in patient care, social work, or psychology where the duties involved actual participation in physical medicine and activities of a hospital or clinic. Provides primary assistance to the therapist in therapy including brace and prosthetic, diabetic, pediatric, and cardiac stress testing. Knowledge of therapeutic machines and orthotic devices. Clerical skills to schedule patients, utilizes word processors, create variety of reports, ordering of general supplies, takes and screens calls, refers calls and messages.
OR
4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
