You will serve as a PROJECT SUPERINTENDENT in the DEPARTMENT OF NAVY to include work sites of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example: If you are within UIC 4523A, you will only be considered for positions within 4523A.

Duties

You will direct and assure the success of the overhaul by being the direct liaison with all levels of Shipyard management and through subordinate levels of supervision. You will provide information and advice regarding projects schedules, budget estimates, changes in production techniques or standards, and equipment and facility requirements to accomplish the work. You will plan work assignments considering trades involved, availability of manpower and equipment, deadlines, and other work projects. You will manage the material and overtime programs to assure proper execution, and recommend cost saving improvements. You will implement policy developed at higher levels and assign or hold responsible those organizations accountable for proper execution of the overhaul. You will coordinate employee assignments with other trades, engineers, military advisors, superintendents, and managers.

  • This may be a Drug Testing position. If so, successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.

  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes when in an industrial area.
  • Work may be performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You may be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require exposure to high noise levels.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position may be subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You may be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-13) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: overseeing the planning and execution of nuclear or non-nuclear ship overhaul and repair projects to ensure the overall effectiveness in terms of cost, quality, and timeliness of completion.
