Duties
Provide advice and legal representation to active duty EFMP families seeking educational and support benefits from federal, state and local resources for their family member with special needs. Advocating procedural and substantive issues under applicable state and federal education and disability laws and regulations, including due process hearings, and, if necessary, representation of clients in court. Represent families in various administrative proceedings to obtain state support benefits related to individuals with special needs. Coordinate access to pro bono legal representation as necessary, including for those practice matters that would require representation against the United States. Draft special needs trusts and provide other legal assistance services in support of EFMP families who are stationed in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Incumbent will, as a secondary duty consistent with the Marine and Family Programs Division Warfighter and Family Support mission, and as directed, provide general military legal assistance services to active duty and retired members of the U.S. Armed Forces, their dependents, and other persons entitled to such services as established by federal statute or regulation. Legal issues will range from simple to complex matters involving, among others, domestic relations and family law, economic and consumer affairs, deployment and mobilization preparation, and preventive law.Coordinate, as needed, with the attorney, Marine and Family Programs Division (MF), Headquarters, USMC, for EFMP legal issues and access to pro bono services related to educational and support services. Incumbent will also coordinate as needed with the Judge Advocate Division (JLA), Headquarters, USMC, as needed.

Qualifications
Incumbent is a U.S. citizen and an active member in good standing of the bar of the State of Virginia and meets the eligibility requirements to apply for admittance, via reciprocity, to the Maryland State Bar and District of Columbia Bar. Experience with educational or disability law is preferred. Familiarity with the Marine Corps is desirable.
