You will serve as a SHIPBUILDING SPECIALIST in the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY.to include work sites of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor, and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility.

Duties

You will assist in the development, review and modifications to original specifications for work accomplished by the contractor. You will assist in evaluating progress in order to ensure timely delivery providing the basis for equitable payments for the contractor, and forming the basis for future planning to allow prompt action on problems. You will assist in surveillance to help insure all facets of work performed meet government quality standards. You will assist in preparing detailed discrepancy reports of instances of failure of the contractor's quality assurance or inspection processes. You will assist in reviewing paperwork associated with any tests conducted on ship's machinery, propulsion systems, piping, combat systems, contractor's test equipment and other complex systems. You will assist in preparing status reports consisting of controlling jobs completion percentage, material problems, staffing problems, contractual data, and any other significant information that may affect the contractual milestones.

  • This may be a Drug Testing position. If so, successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required.
  • A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You may be subject to random drug testing.
  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work may be performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You may be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require exposure to high noise levels.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position may be subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing administrative, organizational, or technical assistance in shipbuilding, ship repair, or construction projects to ensure conformance of products and services to contractual and specification requirements. Completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.)
