Duties

Administer basic life support care to victims on the scene of a fire, accident or in the case of sudden illness. Determines priority of patient care based on assessment findings. Assist in the training of firefighting crew on fire fighting and prevention techniques. Operates alarm room equipment including radio and fire reporting facilities. Applies principles of hydraulics as they pertain to water flow friction and friction loss. Identify potential options available in response to a hazardous materials incident. Operates pumps, turrets, deluge nozzles, foam generators, and other similar equipment, predicting the requirements of firefighters that are engaged in the process of fire suppression and rescue operations. Serves as the driver-operator of various fire fighting vehicles, e.g., pumpers aerial ladder trucks, crash/rescue trucks, hazardous material response vehicles, mobile water supplier aircraft rescue fire fighting vehicles (ARFF), and support vehicles. Provides fire protection for buildings, shops, warehouses, ammunition production and storage areas, fuel storage areas, ground cover areas and a variety of other structural and related areas.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 150 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear the prescribed uniform and/or personal protective equipment while on duty.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime. This position performs, as required, mutual aid support to local fire departments.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires the incumbent to conform to the requirements set-forth in the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1500, Fire Department Occupational Health and Safety Program.
  • Must obtain and maintain Department of Defense, IFSAC or ProBoard, Firefighter I and II Certifications, Hazmat Technician Certification
  • Must obtain and maintain Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT-B) Certification from the State and national registry and Driver and Operator Pumper Certification
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • Incumbent is required to sign DA Form 5019-R or DA Form 7412, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; participating in on-scene patient care in response to emergency calls; applying basic hazard risk assessment techniques to determine best course of action; and operating firefighting vehicle equipment to suppress fires. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, must be certified within the DoD Fire and Emergency Services Fire Fighter Certification system at HAZMAT Operations, Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Airport Firefighter, Driver Operator - Pumper, Driver Operator You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Emergency Medical CareFire SuppressionHazardous Materials ResponseVehicle Operation
