As a Lead Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic in the Engineering Service, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair and installation of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating equipment. You will also train, plan, coordinate and direct the work of assigned AC Equipment Mechanics and helpers.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to the following tasks: Coordinates and determines manpower and materials necessary for HVAC install, and repair needs. Performs preventative maintenance inspections and tasks on HVAC systems and related components to determine wear, reliability and load capabilities. Installs and repairs air handlers and components. Installs, modifies, repairs all HVAC equipment in the building. Plans layout and installation of HVAC wiring, equipment, and/or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes. Assembles, installs, tests, or maintains HVAC or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures, using proper tools. Uses proper techniques and knowledge of HVAC wiring and equipment maintenance. Prepares sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of HVAC or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes. Follows installation, maintenance, and repair manuals to accomplish assigned tasks. Interprets and applies manufacturer's handbooks, technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams to determine material, tools, and equipment needed. Tests HVAC systems or equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Uses a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps. Repairs or replaces wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools. Inspects HVAC systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Diagnoses malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Troubleshoots circuits, controls and systems to locate, repair and replace defective components. The incumbent works with a wide variety of refrigerants and operational principles, at times with little or no technical reference materials. Charging systems with proper refrigerants to obtain optimum operating temperatures. Properly reclaiming and disposing of all types of refrigerant. The incumbent should be able to troubleshoot, repair or replace multiple AC Equipment components with little or no supervision. Using charging gauges and charging cylinders to maintain HVAC equipment. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.
