About the Position: Join us at the United States Southern Command. We provide support to a four star unified Combatant Commander, but are compact enough that our staff also work with senior leadership representatives of our inter-service and (public and private) international partner organizations. Our contribution to furthering our country's relationships with South and Central American Nations are substantial. We are looking for talented individuals to join the US SOUTHCOM team.

Duties

Advise USSOUTHCOM leadership on risk and resourcing guidance to ensure globally integrated contingency plans are feasible and can facilitate rapid transition in crisis or contingency. Coordinate Global Competition activities across Command staff, service components, the Joint Staff, Department of Defense staffs, federal law enforcement agencies, and congressional staffs, as required. Lead the command's Global Competition Framework (GCF) development to ensure plans and strategies are integrated across the command, components. Participate in Globally Integrated Exercises (GIE) workshops and conferences to enhance strategic planning and execution by integrating USSOUTHCOM's joint forces across different commands and regions. Participate in Joint Planning and Execution Community (JPEC) working groups.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top-Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Initiating a wide variety of strategic development, analytical studies, operational planning efforts having major near-term and long-term effects on the Command's mission in Latin America and the Caribbean; 2) Understanding of military global integration operations; 3) Making recommendations for operations plans, and strategy options regarding prioritization and linkage of global integration efforts; 4) Defining solutions to provide recommendations and generate fact sheets/info papers; and 5) Presenting briefs to Command leaders and senior staff. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Oral CommunicationPartneringPlanning and Evaluating Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
