About the Position : Serves as a Medical Records Technician (OA) that performs a variety of duties in selecting, compiling and consolidating medical statistical reports for preparations of a variety of recurring and nonrecurring reports that varies in format, content detail and purpose. Receives instructions on new or changed policies, procedures or regulations and performs assignments.

Duties
Receive and screen all incoming correspondence from patients, civilian providers and other military treatment facilities.
Serve as a HIPAA compliance officer while performing a series of checks and audits for data quality purposes.
Extract medical information from the medical record and prepares correspondence in response to the requests.
Request copies of complete medical records and ensure all requests are HIPAA compliant
Prepare a variety of materials by utilizing various computer programs to include Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes registering new patients into healthcare systems, reviewing requests to release medical information according to regulatory requirements; extracting medical information from medical records to prepare correspondence; and inputting data into automated healthcare systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
