About the Position: This position is located in the Sterile Processing Department at Evans Army Community Hospital in Fort Carson, Colorado. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Inspect reusable medical supplies and/or instruments for damage. Monitor operation of sterilizer with prescribed tests. Prepare contaminated surgical items for sterilization procedures. Determine type of medical tray/set needed based on clinic schedule. Keep records of medical supply inventory to determine reordering need.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be screened for applicable immunizations.
  • This is an Inclement Weather Essential position; you must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • Heavy lifting in excess of 45 pounds is required.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal government which includes demonstrated experience assembling medical instrument trays; wrapping and labeling instrument sets in preparation for the sterilization process; checking supplies to ensure required compliance; AND decontaminating the full range of reusable medical supplies and equipment used within the assigned area.
