The primary purpose of this position is to perform work involved in the identification, examination, classification, acceptance, and disposition of complex categories of materials and equipment; to provide materiel management support pertaining to the repair cycle process, specialized or unique supplies, equipment, and parts requiring unusual degrees of protection.

Duties

- Receives and examines a wide variety of complex items and materials to be turned in - Monitors special programs, computerized listings, and documentation/records - Prepares recurring and special reports, performs analysis - Performs general clerical support/administrative office support functions and maintains cooperative working relationships with team members, senior leadership, and organization's work centers - Conducts extensive searches for information pertaining to complex and/or unusual supply transactions and patterns. Utilizes safety and security practices and procedures following established rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6900 Warehousing and Stock Handling Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a MATERIALS EXAMINER AND IDENTIFIER without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of supply functions, operations, regulations, policies, procedures, techniques, and methods, to include knowledge of data entry and processing of supply transactions in an automated supply system. 2. Ability to read, interpret, and apply applicable reference materiel, such as supply regulations, manuals, catalogs, records, orders, etc., to accomplish tasks and resolve complex supply problems and to also conduct extensive searches for information and to reconstruct records for complex supply transactions. 3. Ability to apply basic analytical methods and techniques to resolve complex supply problems and/or deviate from normal supply management procedures or program requirements. 4. Ability to use correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to accurately prepare and edit written correspondence and reports; and various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents, such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, power point slides, and charts/graphs 5. Knowledge of warehousing, and disposal/demilitarization procedures. Knowledge of safety and security practices and procedures. 6. Ability to balance work assignments, monitor work accomplishment, and keep supervisor informed. Ability to work independently, problem-solve, and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Materiels examiners and identifiers perform moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or hand truck. They walk and stand for prolonged periods of time. The work requires bending, stooping, and pushing and pulling heavy materiel along conveyor lines. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside in a warehouse environment on a year-round basis. Examiners may be subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, and scrapes in moving or handling materials and equipment and are subject to hazards involved in working in proximity to moving equipment such as forklifts, trucks, cranes, and conveyor lines. When handling hazardous materials, protective equipment is provided.
