Duties

You will diagnose, locate and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large, complex heating, ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVAC). You will disassemble and repair a variety of components including compressors, evaporators, condensor, cooling coils, air handlers, bearings, water control valves, air dampers, etc. You will lubricate moving parts and replace air filters, v belts, electrical motors, pulleys, sheaves, bearings, fan shafts, etc. You will perform maintenance, calibration, modification, installation, repair and replacement of analog and direct digital controls (DDC) systems and equipment. You will utilize various trade tools, test equipment, and instruments to include: voltage, amperage, ohm meters, electronic refrigerant leak detectors, micron vacuum analyzers and pumps, electronic temperature gauges, and capacitor analyzers.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current and valid CFC/HFC Certification as a Universal Technician as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) - may be obtained upon employment.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF AN AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION INCLUDING: 1) Installing, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, a variety of systems components such as compressors, which include gear, reciprocating, centrifugal, or rotary pump and a variety of refrigerant controls such as those with low and high pressure side floats, automatic thermostatic expansion valves, capillary or choke types, and those base on volume or quantity changes; 2) Examining, diagnosing malfunctions and making repairs to systems that include analog and/or direct digital control (DDC) systems used in complex heating ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems; and 3) Following all guidelines and procedures pertaining to the use and handling of refrigerants in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations.
