Duties
Responsible for conduct of credible scientific evaluations and assessments of hydrological, water quality, biological, ecological, water supply, and other responses related to Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan implementation.
The position requires a broad scientific technical environmental background and experience in Corps of Engineers aquatic ecosystem restoration policies and regulations.
Consults and coordinates activities with Program and Project Management in accordance with the Project Management Business Process, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders.
Reviews individual project progress, measuring performance and taking necessary corrective actions to maintain project benefits.
Furnishes scientific information and recommendations as to the effects of proposed projects on environmental resources along with management measures to avoid, minimize or mitigate for potential adverse effects.

Please note selection may be made at either the GS-11/GS-12 grade level. If selected at the GS-11 grade level, the incumbent will be in a developmental position with the option of non-competitive promotion to the GS-12 level, with completion of requirements and at management's discretion.
Basic Requirement for Biologist at the GS-11/GS-12 level:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Basic Requirement for Ecologist at the GS-11/ GS-12 level:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-11 - One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service which clearly demonstrates (1) experience communicating scientific information and evaluating complex water resource projects such as aquatic ecosystem restoration; (2) experience evaluating scientific and technical information, developing performance measures, conceptual and predictive tools to integrate science into decision-making; (3) Preparing technical information to be used in the development of the periodic reports to Congress; (4) experience completing consultation with multiagency teams, academia, and the general public; AND (5) development of scientifically sound monitoring and adaptive management plans for complex water resource projects.
Specialized Experience: For the GS-12 - one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service which clearly demonstrates (1) experience communicating scientific information and evaluating complex water resource projects such as aquatic ecosystem restoration; (2) experience evaluating scientific and technical information, developing performance measures, conceptual and predictive tools to integrate science into decision-making; (3) Preparing technical information to be used in the development of the periodic reports to Congress; (4) experience completing consultation with multiagency teams, academia, and the general public; AND (5) development of scientifically sound monitoring and adaptive management plans for complex water resource projects.
