THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.
This National Guard position is for an Aircraft Ordnance Systems Mechanic Supervisor, Position Description Number D1738P01 and is part of the 158th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Command of the Vermont Air National Guard.

Duties
The purpose of this position is to supervise workers, either directly or through one or more subordinate leaders, in accomplishing the operations of a distinct organizational unit and to perform associated nonsupervisory work.
DUTIES:
(1) Planning. Plans weekly or monthly work schedules and sequence of operations. Establishes deadlines and priorities based on established general schedules, methods and policies. Determines skills, materials and equipment required to do the work and participates in the initial planning of current and future work schedules and development of budget requests. Provides workload data, estimates, information on staffing needs, and recommendations for the scheduling of projected work.
(2) Work Direction. Assigns tasks to be performed. Explains work requirements, methods, and procedures. Instructs subordinates on new procedures or methods and provides assistance on difficult or new problem areas. Reviews work in progress or on completion. Makes adjustments as necessary to effectively and economically accomplish the work. Notes and investigates work related problems and independently implements corrective actions which can be taken without affecting work operations controlled by other supervisors. Assures that equipment and materiel is available when needed. Coordinates work with other units.
(3) Administration. Recommends and participates in the selection of personnel to fill vacancies. Schedules and approves leave of subordinates. Sets performance requirements and makes formal and informal performance appraisals. Determines training needs of subordinates and arranges for its accomplishment. Counsels employees on problems. Adjusts informal complaints through discussions with employees and union representatives. Takes informal corrective action on conduct or performance problems. Initiates proposals for disciplinary action where needed. Works to achieve the objectives of Government-wide programs and policies, e.g. equal employment opportunity and labor management relations. Promotes the participation of subordinates in programs such as the suggestion program, cost reduction program, etc. Ensures that regulations governing safety and housekeeping are observed. Maintains production reports and records. Periodically reviews position descriptions of subordinates for currency and accuracy. Initiates the detailing of subordinates to positions other than their own. Initiates or participates in review and improvement of work methods and the structuring of positions to eliminate unnecessary positions and achieve optimum content in those remaining.
(4) Performs the non-supervisory work of the function as needed.
(5) Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions.
(6) Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies.

Requirements
- Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
- Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.

Qualifications
OPEN AREAS OF CONSIDERATION: AREA 1, 2
Area I: All current On-board Permanent and Indefinite Dual Status 32 and Title 5 (Competitive and Excepted) Technicians (Tenure: 1-Career, 2-Conditional, 3-Indefinite) - Only those Vermont National Guard members who are in permanent or indefinite technician status as a result of being competitively hired within that National Guard component applying for a position within the component which they are currently employed.
Area II: All Members of the Vermont Air National Guard.
Minimum Requirements - Experience or training which demonstrates the applicant's ability to repair malfunctions of ordnance equipment and components. Ability to use sketches, electrical diagrams, technical specifications, and engineering drawings. Experience which demonstrates skill in the use of test equipment to make electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic checks.
Specialized Experience: Must have 36 Months experience or training in planning and layout of repair sequence and ability to complete modification, repair, and installation of ordnance systems. Experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting malfunctions and determining remedies where complex relationships exist. Experience in hand tools and the use of a variety of measuring and test equipment. Experience in interpreting technical directions, blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer's specifications
SUPERVISORY POSITION SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience in managing the function of the work to be performed. Experience which includes leading, directing and assigning work of personnel.
- In addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience demonstrating the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments of lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establishing priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated based on duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position.
Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics):
- Knowledge and appropriate training in functions of inspection, maintenance, installation, modification and repair of air munitions launch, release, suspension systems, R/F electronic countermeasures system and aircraft gun systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge and skill in troubleshooting procedures, diagnosing problems and determining corrective action in the aircraft ordnance electronic systems.
- Knowledge and skill to troubleshoot, repair, modify, or remove equipment and components such as gun systems, bomb racks, pylons, and the Ammunition Loading Systems (UALS/ALS).
- Knowledge and ability to interpret and trace schematic, logic and wiring diagrams and use a wide variety of test, measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE). Ability to perform algebraic and trigonometric formulas to solve work related problems.
- Operational knowledge and skill in the operation, interrelationship and interdependent aspects of each ordnance system within the total complex aircraft electronic system(s) within fighter aircraft. Has extensive knowledge of each system's prerequisites, sequential events, and logic flow and signal input/output requirements for successful target acquisition, lock-on, launch and delivery of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons.
- Knowledge of the principals of digital and analog circuits, synchro-electro-mechanical devices, solid-state devices theory, digital techniques /servo operation and circuit theory.
- Comprehensive knowledge and skill to exercise judgment and to apply electronic theories and practices to identify, isolate, and repair malfunctions in individual subsystems of complex electronic systems.
- Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and optical principals.
- Skill in operating assigned computer systems to document job data and to operate and run test equipment.
- Skilled in high reliability soldering techniques and electrostatic discharge protective techniques is required.
- Knowledge of the Technical Order Distribution System and other technical publications and directives relating to work requirements.
-Ability to plan and distribute work to the Aircraft Ordnance Systems Mechanics on a regular basis; explain work requirements, provide technical guidance and direction, recommend individuals for vacancies, promotions or reassignments; counsel employees and adjusts informal complaints and grievances with workers and union representatives; and maintains production reports and establishes performance standards
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

OTHER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & NOTES:
-This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition. Civilian personnel of the Department of the Defense are not exempt from this provision. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
