This position is located in the Pharmacy Department of the Cheyenne River IHS Health Center in Eagle Butte, SD. The employee serves as an assistant to the Chief Pharmacist in the administration and supervision of the Pharmacy Department. The position also functions as a clinical pharmacist providing quality pharmaceutical services to eligible patients in accordance with Federal and State law, Indian Health Service regulations, and accepted ethical standards.
Duties
Supervises operations of outpatient pharmacy services including but not limited to: personnel management and scheduling, policy management, regulatory adherence, advising on work and administrative matters, resolving complaints, and identifying training needs.
Provide formal and informal education and in-services to medical staff, pharmacy, nursing staff as requested.
Provide training for pharmacy residents/students and medical students.
Work with physicians to develop protocols for medical and administrative research related to pharmacy. Collaborate with health professionals to develop treatment protocols, standards of practice and policies.
Provide education to patients and their families about medications, common disease states and information on health promotion.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Basic Requirements
Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (external link) (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors.
For the GS-12 grade level: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: provide inpatient pharmacy services and the preparation of the complete range of sterile products, parenteral, enteral, and parenteral nutrition, and intravenous additives for a large medical facility; take steps to prevent drug reactions or interactions; ensure correct labeling, handling and storage of pharmaceutical products; advise physicians of possible safety issues; compound drugs as prescribed, including IV and chemotherapy drugs; teach pharmacy techniques/procedures to other pharmacists; conduct studies of drugs to determine their effectiveness and safety.
Supervisory Abilities: This is a supervisory position and candidates, in addition to the professional qualifications listed, must have demonstrated in their work experience or training, that they possess, or have potential to develop, the qualities of successful supervision, as required for this position.
