Duties

You will calculate and scribe patterns for the fabrication of metal parts to be used in conjunction with industrial equipment and components. You will operate hand or powered soldering and spot welding equipment to complete assigned sheet metal tasks. You will assemble fittings (e.g., straight pieces, curved pieces, fittings) that involve irregular curves and planes. You will inform the proper authorities of any observed unsafe practices or procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF A SHEET METAL MECHANIC WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Fabricating, assembling, repairing, and installing sheet metal items having combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves and planes; 2) Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics; and 3) Using a wide variety of hand and power tools associated with sheet metal.
