Duties

Serve as a Lead Firefighter at a Military Ocean Terminal. Manage duty crews' performance of daily activities. Lead firefighter crew in the successful accomplishment of assigned duties. Lead crew in responding and/or combating fires in locations such as: ships, trains, trucks, and structures.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination in accordance with DoDM 6055.06 to ensure continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated weather essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • As a "Key" position, the incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear the prescribed uniform and/or personal protective equipment while on duty.
  • This position requires rotating shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. The work schedule is 72 hours a week and 144 hours per pay period.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position requires a military license within 60 days of hire date.
  • This position requires a U.S. Coast Guard Maters License covering Fireboat, under 100 tonnage, within 18 months of appointment.
  • This is a Formal Land based Shipboard Firefighting position.

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess: - Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) State or National registry Certification indicating a future expiration date. - Driver Operator Pumper Certification - Hazardous Technician Certification - Fire Officer 1 - Fire Instructor 1 - Fire Inspector 1 - Driver Operator Aerial Certification Certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Emergency Medical CareFire SuppressionFirefighting EquipmentWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
