You will serve as a GENERAL ENGINEER in the Quality Assurance Office (Code 130), Engineering and Analysis Division (Code 136), (Government Inspector For Non-Nuclear Non-Destructive Testing) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will review and approve operational non-destructive test pieces, radio-graphs, test questions, and test answers.
You will review records of welder or welder operator qualification and re-qualification.
You will review completed weld records for proper NDT/completion on a periodic basis.
You will monitor the Quality Assurance Systems in non-destructive test and welding programs to ensure that the Shipyard is meeting all requirements of applicable NAVSEA specifications.

Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience providing technical leadership in engineering duties concerned with Deep Submergence Systems assets, subsystems, hosts, and support equipment, deep diving systems, and U.S. Naval Ships;
Experience in applying science and engineering concepts to extend and modify existing techniques and to develop new approaches in solving a variety of engineering problems not resolved by accepted methods;
Experience in fields such as metallurgy, mechanical, structural, electrical/electronic and welding engineering, non-destructive testing and certification/safety requirements so that total systems integration is considered in design, production, testing and problem resolution;
Experience in Deep Submergence specialties such as certification, crew training, safety, reliability, maintainability, quality assurance, logistics support, and contracts.

Education
Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)
OR
Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
