Duties

You will install, maintain and repair a variety of complex equipment and systems involving power boilers with complicated components, critical requirements, and rigid tolerances. You will repair and maintain single and multiple fuel power boilers, pollution control equipment, water treatment systems, chemical dispensers, electrostatic precipitators, bag houses, ash removal equipment and wet particulate scrubbers. You will monitor and test the operation of power boiler systems to identify malfunctions and potential problems with equipment. You will perform preventative and scheduled maintenance on plant systems and equipment. You will service units by cleaning or replacing filters, strainers, orifices, ignition devices, and other items on power boilers. You will troubleshoots electrical and pneumatic controls.

• You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
• You may be assigned to perform tasks in non-trade related fields as an assistant/helper as workload requires.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to do the work of a Boiler Plant Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision such as: 1) Installing, maintaining and repairing a variety of steam and hot water equipment systems involving power boilers with complicated components, critical requirements and rigid tolerance; 2) Monitoring and adjusting thermostats, switches, regulators, and other safety devices and alarm systems in compliance with established safety standards; 3) Troubleshooting and repairing pollution control equipment; and 4) Using electronic controls, devices and automatic boiler management systems to identify equipment malfunctions.
