Position will serve as a Nutritionist at the Wewoka Indian Health Center in Wewoka, OK, Incumbent will develop, implement, administer and coordinate nutrition and dietetic services which includes participation in meetings with families and community groups, demonstrations and talks and selected home visits. Interview clients to obtain dietary information and provide nutritional guidance. This position is supervised by the Community Health Director.

Duties

Performs assessments of nutritional needs and food patterns Provides culturally sensitive nutrition counseling and education to individuals, families and groups in nutrition principles, medical nutrition therapy plans, food selection, physical, medical, cultural background and lifestyle. Develop service unit guidelines, policies and procedures, review or program plans and review contacts for nutrition services. Coordinates and interprets research activities to members of the staff and applies the results in planning and developing the nutrition program.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (external link) (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (external link) (formerly American Dietetic Association (external link) (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation. Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists. Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: developing nutritional plans and to provide a broad range of consultation services in nutrition to persons with varying backgrounds. This includes: planning, troubleshooting and evaluating a comprehensive nutrition program for the geographical area. Registration: Each PHS dietitian must possess and maintain a current registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Applicants must submit a copy of their current registration with application. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
