This position is a Fire Protection Engineer who provides direct project management, technical direction and program execution support to the National Airspace System field units. Reports directly to the Technical Operations, Technical Services Organization, Environmental Occupational Safety and Health (EOSH) Support Operations Group (EOSG), EOSH Program Support Center.

Duties

The incumbent is a Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) who conducts fire life safety technical planning and oversight of facility fire protection systems. Functions as the authority, who has jurisdiction to adjudicate unsafe conditions throughout the Service Area. The FPE applies experience and comprehensive knowledge of fire protection engineering principles, theories, and concepts to develop implementation guidance to the field, identify inspection data trends, monitor construction projects for fire life safety impacts, conduct technical training, oversee all operational phases of the fire protection systems, and perform Contracting Officer Representative (COR) responsibilities.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must have a degree in professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum;OR (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced that first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statistics dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronicsOR A combination of education and experience that furnished: (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, AND (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.
