This position is located with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Pay and Personnel Center, Legal Services Branch in Topeka, KS.
Duties
You will serve with two other Paralegal Specialists and one Legal Assistant under the supervision of the Legal Office Supervisory Attorney-Advisor.

- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
Qualifications
You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the federal service.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Some examples of specialized experience are:
-Researching laws, regulations, and case-law in child support or garnishment applications.
-Receiving orders and/or applications involving pay and helping to determine if the order and/or application conforms with laws.
-Assisting with responding to customer questions regarding legal issues.
-Assisting with reviewing applicable laws, case precedence, and preparing draft responses for an attorney.
OR
Master's or equivalent graduate degree
OR
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
OR
LL.B. or J.D., if related
OR
A combination of specialized experience and education.
