Duties
Responsible for all steps of the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes in the laboratory to include specimen collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of results.
Implement, documents, and interprets quality control procedures to insure correct instrument function prior to testing of patient specimens.
Create, uses, and modifies logic schema to determine corrective actions for problem.
Lead activities of up to 5 civilian and 7 military Medical Laboratory Technicians
Accept referrals of abnormal or unusual results and observations from lower grade laboratory personnel.
Requirements
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes s complex and non-routine analyses and/or experience in automated clinical testing (chemistry, hematology, or immunology); and conducting quality control procedures on equipment (such as troubleshooting, maintenance, and calibration). Reviews all work of subordinates to determine that operations are properly performed, and that quality and quantity of work is consistent with approved and required standards
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
