This position, located at the Oklahoma City VA HCS, Facilities Management Service, is responsible for maintenance, repair, and operation and all associated equipment located in the Facility.

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to: Automatically and/or manually operating all controls and equipment of the Boiler Plant Monitoring flow meters and charts and adjusting air/fuel ratios to obtain optimum efficiency · making all necessary adjustments to deaereating equipment Collecting and recording boiler feed water, and condensate chemical concentrations of causticity, alkalinity, pH phosphonates, sulfite, conductivity, and hardness; determining proper amount of chemicals required to prevent corrosion and scale formations of boilers and condensate piping Proper operation and regeneration of sodium ion exchangers Responsible for overall plant maintenance Performing scheduled preventative maintenance and making necessary repairs to all plant systems Repairing and/or replacing boilers, boiler controls, valves, traps pressure reducing valves, feedwater heater deareation, feedwater pumps, gas, oil steam, water piping, fuel oil pumps, air compressors, and all associated equipment Checking operation of safety equipment such as flame extinction, automatic ignition, pressure relief, low water cut outs, etc. Responsible for safe and efficient operation of all air conditioning plant equipment Monitoring and making environmental adjustments using an Energy Management Control system, Johnson's Metasys and 85/40 computer control program Controlling air handling equipment, variable speed drives, humidity, zone and room temperatures, including but not limited to: surgical suites, laboratory facilities, critical care units, and extended care unit Monitoring and adjusting chillers, controlling chilled water flows, condensing water, cooling tower fans and all associated equipment Checks all equipment and recording readings Performing water analysis of tower water for chlorine, biocides and ensuring water treatment will be maintained in accordance with established recommendation Performing scheduled and routine maintenance, making necessary repairs to all plant systems including centrifugal, reciprocating chillers, refrigerant controls, refrigerant levels, high and low pressure side floats, automatic thermostatic expansion valves, hermetically sealed motors, pressure controls, thermostatic motor controls, and controlled devised to protect against overloads and overheating Maintaining/repairing condensers, evaporator cooling water circuits, cooling towers, chilled and condensing water pumps Installing bearings, bushings, gaskets, floats, diaphragms, seals, couplings, motors and alignment, overhauling valves and flywheel drives Work Schedule: 40 hours per week; Tour of Duty may vary in rotating shifts based on the need of the facility Position Description Title/PD#: Utility Systems Repairer-Operator/PD12756A Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Subject to sustain physical exertion and must be in good physical condition. When performing maintenance or repairs, may be required to lift heavy pieces of equipment or work in cramped or awkward positions for extended periods. Subject to frequent walking, standing, and climbing, while checking or working on equipment. Must have good eyesight in order to detect problems on gauges, sight glasses, and other instrument controls from a reasonable distance.
