The primary purpose of this position is to removing, inspecting, cleaning, and installing components and parts, repairing, adjusting, and installing components and parts. Preparing aircraft parts for return into supply system. Preparing aircraft for final demilitarization by identifying and removing known or suspected hazardous materials.
Duties
Removes major components of aircraft structure or systems such as control surfaces, fairing, access panels, doors, hatches, landing gear assemblies, engines, activator units, tubing, electrical wiring, and control cables
Lifts aircraft and/or components and installs support fixtures on multiple MDS aircraft.
Works with and trains lower grade mechanics to accomplish larger and more complex operations such as jacking and leveling aircraft, lifts of aircraft and/or components and installing support fixtures, installing, and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems.
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
Accomplishes operational and maintenance record keeping, both manual and automated, associated with aircraft maintenance and repair.
Performs repairs of limited complexity such as removing worn or damaged gaskets, pneudraulic lines, and couplings, fuel cells, cables, and pulleys, determining when they may be cleaned and reinstalled, or must be replaced.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in hangar areas, outdoors, in parked aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. Exposed to extremes in heat, cold, and inclement weather. Must work in confined areas and in awkward positions. Exposed to dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids, oils, hydraulic fluid, solvents, and hazardous fluids and gases such as Hydrazine and Halon. Subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strain, and injury from falls off scaffolds, ladders, and aircraft surfaces. May be exposed to intake suction and hot exhaust blast.???????
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
