Duties
Identifies, examines, classifies, accepts, rejects, and disposes material and equipment; often the most complex and difficult items received by the site.
Examines and classifies unusual or highly specialized items (e.g., those without markings or contain defects that are not easily identifiable).
Prepares a variety of reports providing basis for the change in condition code classification and cost of repair estimates.
Uses automated systems to perform the entire receiving process and to enter, change, delete, or prepare numerous discrepancy reports.
Continually examines stock while in storage. Monitors shelf-life adherence and determines whether to upgrade or down grade, condition codes on stored items.
Performs individual and consolidated packing and repacking of a variety of items using any of the range of accepted packing containers, materials, devices, methods, and techniques for air and surface shipment.
Performs work in the warehouse environment to accomplish all facets of moving, storing, picking, and packing of material for receipt or issue.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Material Handling Equipment (MHE) license.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain licenses and/or certifications required by the installation, federal, state, and local laws.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain required hazardous materials handling certifications.
Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Physical Effort: Performs moderate to heavy lifting (up to 45 pounds; with assistance requested on items that exceed 45 pounds) when moving material by hand or hand truck. Heavier material is moved by materials handling equipment, or with the assistance of co-workers. Work requires standing and/or walking for lengthy periods and often requires bending, stooping, pushing, and/or pulling material.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a warehouse environment or at outside work areas on a year-round basis. Incumbent may be subject to cuts, bruises, abrasions, and scrapes in moving or handling equipment, and are subject to hazards involved in working in close proximity to moving equipment such as conveyors, tow-line systems, and materials handling equipment. In addition, may also be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, solvents, and to high noise levels in mechanized areas. When working with hazardous materials, may be subject to exposure from radiation, toxins, explosive hazards, or chemical fumes.
SAFETY AND HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: Employee is required to wear safety clothing and equipment appropriate for the job and work area where assigned, as directed by the supervisor. Types of required protective clothing and equipment include, but are not limited to the following: eye, respiratory, and foot protection, protective clothing, (gloves, apron, coveralls, etc.) Other types may be required as deemed necessary by authorized management officials. Employee will be required to wear approved hearing protective devices and an audiometric test will be conducted, as necessary, when working near or around noise hazardous areas, machinery, or equipment.
