Duties

As a Supervisory Health Physicist you will: Serve as the Director, Division of Compensation Analysis and Support (DCAS), NIOSH, CDC. Plan, organize, and oversee the activities of DCAS. Direct, coordinate, and oversee work through subordinate supervisors. Develop goals and objectives that integrate organization objectives that provide radiation dose reconstruction and Special Exposure Cohort evaluation for nuclear weapons workers who may have developed certain work-related illnesses in accordance with the Energy Employees Occupational Illness Compensation Program Act of 2000 (EEOICPA). Establish, revise, or review policies, procedures, mission objectives, and organization design for the staff, as necessary to eliminate work problems or barriers to mission accomplishment, promote team building. Plan strategies for the management and delivery of resource planning, allocation, analysis and evaluation of DCAS services for the Institute. Responsible for accepting or rejecting scientific material by subordinates. Represent the Division to parties concerned with public health issues related to CDC (including other federal agencies, state and local health agencies, and voluntary, academic, private, and international organizations, the Advisory Board on Radiation and Worker Health).

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Have a Degree in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. Or Have a combination of education and experience (courses as shown in A above), plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS- 15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which must include the following experience: providing leadership, administrative oversight, scientific, and technical direction to program functions, operations and/or activities within an occupational safety organization. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
