This position is located in the Fort Thompson Service Unit (SU) Business Office (BO) in Ft. Thompson, SD. Incumbent is responsible for accounts receivables (A/R) for all incoming third-party collections for the SU. The incumbent will establish responsibilities and prescribe required procedures for A/R collections in accordance with the third-party internal control policy.

Duties

Serves as the accounts receivables Accounting Technician processor for third party payments. Receive the entire reconciliation packages sort, batching, and identify all third party reimbursements. Organizes, sorts, verifies third party reimbursements, non-pays, EOB's, Remittance advices (R/A) and request for information Posts payments and adjustments to the Accounts Receivable (A/R) system assuring that all payments and non-pays are recorded in the proper account and section. Follows-up on all denials.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-4: One (1) year of general experience AND/OR two (2) years above high school. GS-5: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level AND/OR four (4) years above high school. GS-6: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level. General Experience - Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience - Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples of Specialized Experience: GS-5: Maintains accounts by reviewing documents to verify accounting data as necessary, entering data into the system; maintaining the automated accounts receivable ledger associated with third party billing to assure that collection, billed data, and the computerized and manual reports are in balance; reviews and examines various types of bill types; prepares monthly reports; audits documents received for completeness and accuracy. GS-6: Performing a variety of accounts receivable functions such as preparing daily collections, adjust and post payments, examine and follow-up on claims, reconcile and balance accounts, process refunds and prepare financial reports. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
