Duties
This position is located in the Division of Dam Safety & Inspections, Chicago Regional Office, in the Office of Energy Projects. As a Civil Engineer, some of your typical work assignments may include:

- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
- A background investigation is required.
- This is a bargaining unit position.

In addition to the education required for this position,
GS-12: You must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-11 Level. Specialized experience is defined as experience applying at least one of the following disciplines of civil engineering: structural, hydrologic, hydraulic, geotechnical, or engineering geology to the investigation, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure facilities.
GS-13: You must have at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 Level. Specialized experience is defined as experience independently applying one or more of the following disciplines of civil engineering: structural, hydrologic, hydraulic, geotechnical, or engineering geology to the investigation, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure facilities.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including any volunteer experience.
