A successful candidate in this position will serve as Safety and Occupational Health Specialist to plan and execute the Environmental, Safety and Health programs.
Duties
Conduct technical reviews/evaluations in industrial safety and industrial hygiene during the design, construction, and final inspection in the existing or new facilities.
Interpret regulations, standards, codes, Department of Energy Orders, and any other applicable requirements, and determine their applicability to specific situation of Environmental, Safety and Health situations or concerns.
Provide support on any incidents involving employee injury/illness including investigations and any other safety and health incident reports for adequacy of investigation, adherence to report writing procedures.
Conduct follow-up to ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
Qualifications
For EN-03 level:
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower NNSA Demonstration Project pay band or GS grade level in the Federal Service, i.e., EN-00, or GS-11. The specialized experience is defined as 1. Experience in inspection/observation of facilities for identification of environmental or ergonomic hazards. 2. Inspection/observation of facilities for identification of unsafe physical conditions such as slip, trip, and fall hazards. 3. Managing or participating in emergency management programs; and/or reviewing contract proposals for safety plans associated with contract work.
For EN-04 level:

The specialized experience is defined as 1. Experience with developing the adequacy and effectiveness of Federal safety policies, practices, and systems. 2. Experience with a wide spectrum of administrative, engineering, technical, and scientific disciplines involving research and development efforts in a myriad of programs and technologies.
3. Managing work planning and work control, being compliant with federal safety procedures, and implementing safety plans.
Examples of qualifying experience includes:
For EN-03 level:

Education
Major study -- safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
